Do you ever wonder where our childlike innocence has gone?
What happened to the baby that woke up with a smile on their face, happy to be fully alive?
What happened to that child running around like there was no tomorrow? Because to us, there wasn’t.
What happened to the kid that smiled at everyone they came in contact with because they were excited to meet new people?
I feel God is calling me back to that.
The soft heart.
The gentle spirit.
The playfulness.
The trueness to who we are.
I think about my niece, Harper. I watched her play the other day and thought to myself, “She doesn’t have social media or any obligations to worry about.” What a life she lives. That is the life I desire to have back.
It is a life we knew how to live. Not because we had everything figured out, but because we didn’t need to.
Anymore, instead of resting in God’s goodness, we fill every moment with noise. The child who once found joy in simply being alive became an adult constantly searching for the next thing.
Jesus is saying, “Come back, my beloved child.”
Come back to wonder.
Come back to simplicity.
Come back to trust.
Come back to the joy you had before the world convinced you that you needed more.
Perhaps, growing in Christ is not always about becoming more complicated.
Perhaps, sometimes it is about returning to what we have forgotten.
That’s who we were created to be. And, let’s always remember to listen to that inner voice that simply says, “Come back, my child.”
