God Will Do What You Want
You may see a dad walking along with his kids, but I see something much deeper.
I see a father doing what his kids wanna do, all for the sake of seeing them smile and come alive.
You see, this picture captures a moment where, on a hot summer day in Florida, Misty and I took our children, Luke and Olivia, to an amusement park. It wasn’t comfortable and it definitely wasn’t cheap, but it was something they wanted to do.
To be honest, going to a crowded park in the middle of a Florida summer day wasn’t something I would’ve personally done on my own time (I would’ve been on the golf course).
But, as you parents will understand, once you have children, everything changes; nearly everything you do and every decision you make revolves around them.
Why? Because you love them with a love that, quite frankly, transcends your own needs or wants; and it most certainly goes beyond what your mind can comprehend.
And, for that, you’ll drop everything you wanna do for the sake of what they wanna do.
Even if it means you’ll have to sacrifice your day, drain your wallet, and wait in those god-awful lines, then sacrifice it’ll be.
Seeing them smile and come alive causes you to smile and come alive. For this, sacrifice isn’t the point, LOVE is (sacrifice is merely the vehicle that love rides in).
I think God the Father is the same way. In fact, I believe the love we have for our children is, without a doubt, a direct reflection of the love that God has for us.
I would even dare to say that parenting is by far the most natural expression we have of the love of God (parenting in its pure form is “heaven on earth”)
The love we share with them is the love that God is sharing with us.
In other words, I can only father my children because God is, as Jesus came to reveal, THE Father (he spoke of the Father at least 180 times).
As I ponder over this picture and the good nature of our God and Father, I can hear him saying, “I’ll do what you wanna do if it means I get to spend time with you and see you smile.”
Now, go in the love of the Father today. He’s smiling over you, kid!
